Description

Madhubani paintings (on walls) have been an important cultural feature during marriages, festivals & special occasions for the people of Mithila. However, they were largely unknown outside of the region until 1934 when they were accidentally discovered by an English officer inspecting damage caused by a massive earthquake. Over the decades these strikingly colourful paintings have become the most popular folk art form in the world. Ingenious artists use a variety of instruments such as brushes, bamboo shoots & cotton wrapped twigs to create these visually arresting paintings with natural & acrylic colours on high quality Neem-treated Khadi paper.
