Jatayu fights with Ravana to save Sita: When Ravana was taking away Sita to his kingdom Lanka in his flying chariot, Jatayu, the wise old bird, was taking rest in the forest. On hearing Sita’s screams, Jatayu flew to Ravana's chariot. Jatayu was a great devotee of Lord Rama and he could not keep quiet when he saw the plight of Sita. He knew that he could not stand anywhere in front of the mighty demon king Ravana but still, he decided to fight. He stopped Ravana and asked him to leave Sita but Ravana threatened to kill him if he would interfere. Chanting Lord Ram’s name, Jatayu attacked Ravana with his hooked beak and sharp claws. His sharp nails and beak pierced the skin of Ravana. This made him angry and Ravana took out his arrow and fired at Jatayu. The arrow hit his frail wing and it tore off. The brave bird still continued to fight and with his other wing, he bruised the face of Ravana. He tried to pull Sita out of the chariot but Ravana took out another arrow and shot his other wing as well. Jatayu fell on the ground bleeding and with wounds all over his body. He kept taking the name of Lord Ram and waited for him to tell about Sita till his last breath.
