Jamal needs no introduction. Long established as one of Bangladesh’s leading painters, he is in a class of artists now recognized worldwide. Extensively exhibited in Bangladesh and abroad, Jamal’s work has a distinct flair which sets him apart from the work of his contemporaries. Jamal’s artistic development during the last few decades completely transcends other Bangladeshi artists. There is no other parallel that draws with his verve or paints with the unique human warmth that he does. He approaches his subjects with great empathy and passion and immortalizes them in his impressionistic style paintings. He paints with great skill and dexterity with an adventurous outlook. He is a master of many techniques of drawing and painting – be it the semi nude female figure, the bearded fakir, magnificent riverscapes, or a cluster of pigeons, his paintings are moving, lyrical and poised - as if one were approaching them in real life! Colors are minimal but the bold strokes add poetry to his work.
As did artists from the Renaissance period, Jamal too presents the essence of the beauty of the human body in all its glory. What Botticelli and Rodin presented centuries back, in paintings and sculpture, is here amalgamated with a more modern presentation.
Jamal Ahmed has exhibited in Japan, Poland, UK, USA, India, Pakistan and innumerable times in Bangladesh. He has won coveted awards and acclaim both at home and overseas. His works are in public and private collections worldwide.
