This painting is from my Home series where most of the topics and subjects were about my life, my home, interactions with family, friends and pets. Home as a state of mind. Home as in our Earth, abundant with trees, hills, plants, rocks and all creatures large and small. This series also expressed a completeness that i was feeling and continue to feel. A feeling that i belonged....a feeling that i was home in my skin mentally, emotionally and physically. Swirling saree is the story of my pets behavior whenever i wore a saree. Initially my cat, Geisha loved to play with my pallu (part of the 5.5 yard garment draped over the left shoulder) that had tassels that moved and dangled in the most enticing way for any cat to resist! Our dog Cherie never really featured in this activity (one rarely sees a dog playing with a pallu unlike cats) although she was always around doing what dachshunds do best.....sniffing out interesting spots and smells! Pets normally figured out that when you dressed up, you were most definitely stepping out and most often without them! Geisha took a while to understand this relationship between wearing a saree and stepping out. Unfortunately once she did the playing with tassels lost its charm to her forever. She wasn't particularly fond of being left behind. Infact as cats go, she was one who always wanted our company and preferably a familiar lap to cuddle and purr lovingly upon. She wasn't a cat that liked to be left alone or be apart from her beloved family. This is a memory of her, loving this game with endless fabric to hide under and around. It was one of the most endearing and adorable moments that I enjoyed with her.
