About Artist

Name of artist: SIMPLE MOHANTY Artist's bio lines: Dr Simple Mohanty's passion for art since childhood saw her trying to capture the fascinating beauty of nature- whether azure skies, the play of light and shade on foliage, or the multi-hued iridescence of flowers- on paper. As a creative artist she has been deeply touched by the beauty, balance, rhythm, resilience and vibrant colours of nature and natural cycles, which find their ways of manifesting in the bustle of human life and culture as well. She is drawn towards subjects that reflect these- they could be flowers, water bodies, animals, still life or people in the midst of any or all of these. Her sujects, are therefore, organically connected to nature. She tries to capture on canvas the very soul, vitality and life force of the subjects, whose beauty mover her. Starting with water colours, her first love due to the translucency of the medium, she has found it equally exciting to venture into oils, acrylics and pencil on canvas, at ease with both brush and spatula. The subject, style and strokes of her works are closest to the impressionistic & expressionistic genres, although rooted in representationalism. She has been part of several group art shows in Delhi & Jaipur including the International Lalit Kala Mela, at Lalit hotel's Art Junction, Open Palm Court Gallery, IHC, AIFACS, CSOI art gallery and RPR gallery AWARDS WON: Bharat Nirman Make in India Award for excellence in Fine Arts for the year 2018 GROUP ART SHOWS: • Art junction at Hotel Lalit, New Delhi, curated by Shri Naresh Kapuria in April, 2016 • Art junction at Hotel Lalit, New Dellhi, curated by Shri Naresh Kapuria in August 2016 • Art junction at Hotel Lalit, New Delhi, curated by Shri Naresh Kapuria in April 2017 • " Pehchan," at Main Atrium, Vasantkunj Mall, curated by Shri Aviral Jain in December, 2017 • 51 contemporary at Lalit Kala International Mela, curated by Shri Shrikant Pandey from 4 Feb-18 Feb, 2018 • Group art show at Civil Servives Officers Institute ( CSOI) curated by Shri Shrikant Pandey in Feb- March 2018 • " Fem-is-in," at Main Atrium, DLF Vasantkunj Mall, curated by Shri Aviral Jain of RPR gallery in March 2018 • "Thoughts on Surface- I" at RPR Gallery, curated by Shri Shrikant Pandey in March- April 2019 • Ye hai Dilli meri Jaan,” group art show at AIFACS, 1 Rafi Marg, curated by Shri Virender Kumar in August 2018 • "Harmony of Beauty with Nature", a 2-artists' show curated by Shri VikramSethi at Hotel Sheraton, Saket in August 2019 • " Three Special Women Artists- Trimurti," curated by Shri Vikram Sethi at Hotel Sheraton, Saket in September 2018 • " Sankalan, " curated by Shri Shrikant Pandey & organised by CSOI in collaboration with Lalit Kala Akademi at the Lalit Kala Akademi gallery from October 20-24, 2018 to mark the 150 th birth anniversary of the Mahatma. • International Art Festival at Jaipur, organised by Ravindra Rangmanch Art Gallery from 22-24 October, 2018 • Back to Home III, curated by Shri Shrikant Pandeyji at CSOI art gallery in October,2018 • "Three Special Women Artists- Shakti, " curated by Shri Vikram Sethi at Hotel Sheraton Saket, in November, 2018 • " Indradhanush," art exhibition curated by Shri Shrikant Pandeyji at CSOI on 27 & 28 April, 2019 as a part of the cultural component of the CSOI Literature Festival • " Beyond Colours 3, " an art exhibition curated by Amrita Parakashji at Open Palm Court Gallery, India Habitat Centre from 12 -16 July, 2019 • " Rasa," a group art exhibition curated by Ms Chandni Gulati at Artizen Art Gallery from 23 Aug- 27 Aug 2019 • Festival of Art, organised by Mr Ashish Mishra of Akatva Foundation from )ct 19-22, 2019 at Pandara Park, New Delhi • Group exhibition at Hotel Lalit, curated by Shri Naresh Kapuriaji starting from 9 Oct- 24 Oct 2019 • Group Exhibition titled, ‘ Beyond Colours 3,’ organised by Ms Amrita Prakash in February2020 SOLO SHOWS: • 61st National Lalit Kala Mela, 2020 held from 4- 22 March, 2020 at Rabindra Bhavan, New Delhi

This is the second of a series on the spring blooms in the artist’s garden, executed with acrylic colours on canvas in an expressionist style. Rather than a realistic, portrayal, expressionism gives the freedom to capture essence of the beauty of the flora & fauna & recreate the joyous mood of the onlooker on viewing such natural beauty. The garden was her retreat during the lockdown period , seeing more birds, butterflies and bees than usual, as human activity took a back space in these unprecedented times.
