About Artist

Born, brought up, in Pune, and at present she is proprietor TAO Arts, Pune & Creative Director, Tao Communications, Pune. Bharati has two unique facets to her personality. For one she is a self - taught artist unlike most of her contemporaries. Secondly, she is a painter - poet. Her creative genius flows through dual channel poetry and paintings; and both have won her quite a few awards to her credit. The two media merged in her creations; a marvellous blending of a poet's vision and a painter's brush. The mystery of life and art, and their subterranean connections have fascinated her right since her childhood. Her search for the lost glory of the Indus Valley Civilization has taken her through the length and breadth of this vast country. She is already a long way on her path. A suitable Indian sensitivity marks her paintings as she explores the medium of ancient art in the context of its contemporary relevance. Today, her DRY FRESCOS of Rangavali Paintings have crossed the valley of time and reached at India Pavilion ARAS (FRANCE) for showcasing FRANCE- INDIA Festival in 2006-2007. “For a person things become relevant if they satisfy his needs. For a civilized person they become meaningful if their history is revealed. For an artist they become living entities if they reveal to him the human presence behind. I am an artist interested in civilization and culture as a person.” [Video - Bharati Mate: From Commerce to Colours] I was in the Bank for 30 years and I would simultaneously paint while I was working. I have a passion for art because of which I can't resist from painting. I started painting with the help of oil paint and so I've also done a lot of rock art paintings in my initial stages. My works include that of the Indus Valley Civilization, which are also made from oil paints. From these paintings I've made calendars, diaries and greeting cards so that whatever has been researched reaches the masses. We have developed the technique of using dry Frisco of Rangoli on canvas and so we can fold or roll it and send it anywhere in the world. My paintings are a fusion of symbolism and ornamental Rangoli. There must always be a meaning to your paintings and that's why I call them thoughtful floor canvas.
