Description

Living in Bangalore - a city of migrants! Having moved and relocated myself so many times in my life. My Peregrination was my choice not need based. Yet, I experienced the feeling of displacement, trying to make new associations and learning to nurture sensitivity towards unfamiliar surroundings. The city is accepting of migrants and so blending in ultimately was not a challenge. Extending my thoughts towards the current migrant situation across the world. More than 11 million people have had to embark on this odyssey which has been the result of wars and religious fanaticism. My current body of work talks about the initial social incoherence within the Diaspora. Their ties to the ancestral lands. And their eventual integration into the host country. Depending on their geographical area and the hosts themselves some migrants disperse into the host country easily and for others the ordeal and endless lacuna continues. This collection talks about the journey and the relationships with other communities in the Diaspora. Boundaries and boundlessness is seen across many artworks. The work also pays tribute to the dynamics of many communities trying to live together in a small geographical area and to the crusaders amongst the Diaspora who break boundaries by working tirelessly to knit the communities together.
