Vilayam is the merging of one thing into another. This is highly romantic in conception, in which the nude female is embracing a rough stone which she had identified with masculinity. The irresistible urge of the female consciousness is to be engulfed by the vigorous grasp of the male and the merging of the slender maiden with rough stone. It brings out the basic difference between male and female nature. The surface of the stone is irregular and misshaped which is contrasted with the rich contours and the sensuous curves of the woman.
