About Artist

Art cannot be confined by definitions, boundaries, language, race or religion; it is a dialogue between the seer and the seen. And that is how Ravi perceives art. He strongly believes that art is omnipresent and waiting to be seen or realized. An established artist, Ravi after having lived in Singapore and Malaysia has returned to his roots in India. A thorough Delhiite and a graduate of Delhi College of Art, he belongs to a family of artists and art lovers. Ravi, says that art chose him early in life, it is a passion that translates through him and as an artist dedicated to his art his choice of medium is not limited. For Ravi, “the entire world is an inspiration and the biggest art gallery that there is”. He has successfully curated many exhibitions, both internationally and in India earning rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. For his recent series of photographs titled ‘Art Happens’, that explores the beauty in mundane, Ravi was awarded the prestigious ‘National Akademy Award’ (2015-16). His eye for detail and communion with the subject through his lens is reflective of the philosophy of art that he swears by. Essentially, he feels that most importantly art is a symbiotic relationship between the audience or the viewer and art. “It is an individual’s personal dialogue with the art whether it is a painting, a picture or even a chair. Art should evoke feelings and be open to interpretation. I deliberately do not give my art work any name cause I do not want to influence the thinking of the audience. I have expressed my ideas in a form and I want you to interpret it, stop and think about it, own it intellectually and emotionally. I am inspired by the quote of Paul Strand, “The artist’s world is limitless. It can be found anywhere, far from where he lives or a few feet away. It is always on his doorstep,” and I find that my truth lies in it.”
