Description

Sitarmakers, due to the unpredictable harvest of the gourds, maintain a stock of tumbas or pumpkins. Since pumpkins take a lot of physical space, they hang it close to the ceiling in whole house. The proceeds from the sale of this work will be shared with the Dagar Brothers Memorial Trust, New Delhi, for the digitisation of audio-visual archives, and with the Spaces Foundation, Chennai, to support the reconstruction of the Chandra-Mandapa and establishment of the museum. The remaining money will be used to fund the artist's ongoing project of documenting the pan-Indic traditions of the instrument making.
