Description

Ravana and Sita’s argument and Sri Hanuman giving Lord Ram’s ring to Sita: This painting on one side shows Ma Sita having an argument with Ravana in Ashok Vatika and on the other hand, shows Sri Hanuman giving Lord Ram’s ring to Sita. When Sita was abducted by Ravana, she was being taken to his kingdom Lanka and was kept in Ashoka Vatika (the garden of Ashoka trees). One day she was sitting surrounded by all the female demons and Ravana arrived. He boasted about his fortunes and fame in the world and told her, “If she marries him, he will make Sita his Patrani (Chief queen)!”. Hearing this Sita got angry and reproached him holding a twig. She declared “You have no comparison with Lord Ram, he is the pride of Raghu Clan! You only got me disguising yourself as a Sage. You cannot ever have me even in your dreams”. Feeling insulted, Ravana ordered the female demons to guard her and said if she doesn’t agree to marry him in one month, he will kill her. Sri Hanuman watched all this sitting on a branch of a tree in the Ashok Vatika and when it was quiet at sunset, he started to sing the story of Lord Rama and dropped Ram’s ring besides Sita. She was astonished to see the ring as she knew it belonged to her husband and nobody could create it. After this, she requested whoever has got this for her must come in front of her and Sri Hanuman finally met her and told her that he is a messenger of Sri Ram and he is coming to take her away.
