Description
Ram and Sita’s wedding:
A challenge was kept by King Janaka to find an ideal match for his daughter Sita. Whosoever wields the bow of Lord Shiva that King Janaka possessed, he will be an ideal match for Sita. Lord Ram won Sita’s hand in the Swayamvar by lifting the mighty bow of Lord Shiva. The message was sent out by King Janaka to Ayodhya and as soon as it reached King Dashratha, he immediately did preparations and set out for Janakpuri in a grand procession along with the Bharat, Shatrughan, and citizens of his kingdom. They were given a ceremonial welcome and it is said that even Gods from Heaven appeared to witness the nuptials. The women sang auspicious and folk songs while the apsaras (angels) danced above in Heaven.
