About Artist

Artist statement: “There is no one city I could live and paint in all my life. I am far too unstable to live in one city. I need to keep travelling and meet new people. Life is too short to not move and experience what life has to offer.” I am inspired by three great artists who have had distinct impression on me – Ganesh Pyne, Picasso and Badrinath Arya. But the greatest of my inspirations have been the people and the world around me. In my works I have explored different facets and sometimes completely different human beings caught in the same body. A medically approved theory of split personality which seems to have seeped in to the life seamlessly today. The world is becoming unforgiving and there is no scope for failures. This pressure creates distortion in characters and an individual starts creating an illusion around him/her. There is infinite number of possibilities of the way this illusion would surface in the visual presence. The way a human character has huge number of expressions; masks are just a copy of that. The only difference between the two is that the mask portrays something which is nonexistent within. Mask is a reality but it’s often used to cover the reality. Most of us wear masks in real life for various reasons & have numerous justifications for doing so. Some say that mask is the factor that differentiates between humans & animals. Some blame it on culture, society, materialism and more. Whatever the reason, logic or justification given, mask is a big part of life for every human and an unrecognized one at that. This phenomenon encompasses the entire human race. I don’t know the answer but my works are a medium to explore this amazing aspect of life and hope to use it as a mirror to express my own feelings, experiences and what I learn from the world around every day. My works reveal my feelings, fears, emotions, expressions, insecurities, nakedness and my understanding of the world that I live in. Research/development method: My process is based in my experiences. I don’t travel too far for my expression. My own experiences, people around me, strangers and close ones alike, events in my life of events unfolding around me, feelings that I go through or I witness someone going through, the versions of right or wrong perceptions practiced around me, impacting me or relevant to me, all this put together culminates in my subjects and narratives. Communication is important to me, so without being judgmental or conclusive I search for the connection with other minds. That’s my journey and it gives me immense satisfaction. Statement of the art work/project: I don’t want to be appreciated for beauty. Beauty is subjective. I say what I want to say without a conclusion, with an open end. I invite you to participate, even if you are passing by it can strike a conversation with you, off course if you offer an open mind and not a judgmental one. I believe there is some tiny little common thought ground in all of us where we think alike, feel alike, where we get attuned to one another. I believe in conversations. Every time you would approach the painting the conversation would be a changed one, why? Because it’s simply reflecting your own mind.
