About Artist
To me each painting is an exploration of colours, shapes, textures, rhythm and meaning. As I am layering colours, the changing hues and tones evoke a variety of feelings and thoughts. The interplay of nature’s forces - transitory and perpetual, integrated and disparate, light and dark - all manifest on the canvas in a state of flux. New meanings, new paths and choices that my mind otherwise would not have foreseen appear and disappear. The process itself shows the way. At the end, sometimes I am left with nothing, only exhaustion. But on other occasions I have a feeling of completion.
Apart from an artist I am also a teacher. After completing my Master’s in Social Work in Delhi, I was drawn to painting while training teachers in creative teaching skills. I was part of a team that was involved in exploring the curriculum through a variety of art forms. I have been painting since the early 90s. I initially learnt painting at Triveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi. My serious involvement in art happened in Chennai, where I trained under late Mr S. Dhanapal, college of Art principal, Chennai. While art and teaching often conflict, they also complement each other.
