About Artist

Shri Natu Mistry was born in 1933 in rural Gujarat. After doing his Bachelor of Arts he did his Art Masters from theprestigious CN College of Fine Arts, Ahmedabad. He pursued his Diploma in Fine Arts from India’s reputed Sir JJ school of Arts, Mumbai. In 1957, Shri Mistry took up the role of a principal in the school of drawing and design till 1962. From then onwards till 1985 he worked as a cartoonist for a leading Gujarati daily ‘Gujarat Samachar’. From 1985 he worked as an Interior Designer and created some gorgeous homes in India.  After a successful career and life, he turned towards his lost love of creating paintings in the year 1995. At the age of 83, Shri Mistry still has a disciplined attitude towards work and continues to paint daily at his studio. He has held more than 46 solo shows to his credit in major cities of India and countries like UAE, Africa, Italy, USA and Singapore. Shri Mistry did his solo show at Marvel Art Gallery in 2006. He has been part of more than 50 group shows and art camps. He has been conferred with several awards for his contribution in fine arts including the Gujarat government’s “Gaurav Puraskaar’ and the ‘Kalidas Sanman’ from the Madhya Pradesh government. His art has been well documented in well researched documentaries which have been aired on National television. He is the pioneer when it comes to presenting the art of Gujarat through books by writing more than 25 publications. Various government and private organizations has invited him in India and abroad to create special designs representing Indian culture and architecture at its best.
