About Artist

From a very young age, I was inclined towards arts and crafts, mainly because of the environment I was born in. I saw my maternal grandfather’s team of craftsmen, working on papier mache products at his workshop painting flowers and birds. At home, I was exposed to a variety of mediums my father, Masood Hussain, an artist, employed in his art. I used to spend most of my time assisting him, watching him translating his daily experiences of life in his paintings, always wondering how it works but now when I know, there is no stopping. Everything around me inspires me to paint. It is the purest and the most fearless form of expression to speak aloud the realities of life. For me, everything I see is translated into lines and colour. My paintings are a personal journey, I pour out my questions to the canvas and we find the answers together. During the past two years, I have been working on three series of abstract paintings exploring different techniques and subject matter. One of the series My Journey, deals with my journey in an abusive marriage, Woman confined to a room and The moving image are a part of the series. An attempt to communicate the emotions through the use of bold strokes and colours. I have used a lot of greys, blue, black and greens in the paintings, to maintain the emotional connect. However, some of the works like Accompanied by sunset are moments where I found solace. Dreams in a veil, Abandoned, Agony are a part of my second series - The Arrival, an attempt, to voice the feelings of Kashmiri people living in a conflict zone. Abandoned portrays the sufferings of Kunan-Poshpora Mass Rape victims, still waiting for justice. Agony depicts the pain and emotions of a mother who have been affected by the conflict. My third series, is an attempt to explore the connection of women with the deeper realities of life, on the level of spirituality, mysticism and religion. “Rising from the ashes” is an attempt to show the spiritual journey of Lal Ded a, 14th-century mystic poetess. “Contemplation” is an attempt to understand the dynamics of meditation and movement of the space.“Resurrecting the crescent”, is depicting the spiritual growth, journey and transformation of a woman.
