About Artist
Emelda Heigrujam
I’m a self-taught artist, who have passion and desire to draw, paint and weave. I didn’t have the advantage to learn through classroom discussion on art theory, composition, design, color and the demonstration techniques that any art student can try. But, something within me gave me the incentive and will power to pursue and dedicate my life to learning…
I have always studied the works of others, examined them, experimented and practiced continuously.
I’m born in Manipur, a small hilly state in north-eastern India, where weaving is one of the main source of livelihood for most of the women. I am always fascinated by the beautiful and delicate hand woven products of my people. Weaving as a technique is what I am always inspired by.
I live in Delhi, India. My husband, N Umarjit Meitei, a fashion designer played a key role in the development of my work and he continues to be one of my primary influence. Living with a fashion designer who always work with beads and threads for so many years, I perfected my skill of handling beads in some creative ways…
So, here I am, with some yarns, beads, and needle in my hand to explore the world of creative culture…
