About Artist

Dipak Kundu through his works tries to explore the concepts of psychoanalysis as theorized by Sigmund Freud. The ‘Eros’ and the ‘Thantos’ is expressed through his works which are an exploration of human emotions and desire. Life, love and sexuality are put in juxtaposition with the inevitability of death. His works are an echo of the human psyche and represents the dichotomy of relationships between the sexes. In Kundu’s paintings, the figurative and the semi-figurative elements form imagery where one image stands as the reflection of the other in a symbolic way. The yin-yang is represented in his works and sexuality is represented as a divine union. The mystification of human sexuality adds to an ethereal quality to the painting. He derives his influences from Indian mythology and folklore. The inherent Indianness in his works makes it more relatable to the viewer. He has had shows both in India and abroad. He is a postgraduate from Rabindra Bharati University. Two solo exhibitions at Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata in the year 2003 & 2005. He has participated in group shows at Dhoomimal Art Centre, Delhi, Chemould Art Gallery Kolkata, Chitrakala Parishad, Bangalore and Birla Academy of Art & Culture, Kolkata. He was one of the artist of Gen Next I at Aakriti Art Gallery in 2006. He has attended Ceramics Workshop and \'KalaMela\' organised by R.B.U., as well as participated in an Art Camp organised by Aryan Art Gallery, Delhi recently in 2006. He has been awarded the Best Award in water colour by Indian College of Art and Draftsmanship and Rabindra Bharati University Award. His works can be seen in several private collections in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and abroad.
