About Artist
From Dharwad, Karnataka, artist Chikmath F. V. Paints in his own unique style to create imaginary world almost childlike and naïve. However, buried deep beneath the surface is the true meaning. His passions and emotions drive him. Beautiful and interesting things around him capture his imagination both visually and emotionally. Every image, every shape and every form talks to him on some level.
He experiments with various compositions, colours and lines with the backdrop of his robust understanding of Indian history and tradition. Along with his works on traditional forms and elements, he also made use of many modern themes, which could be explained as a happy marriage of tradition and modernity. This blend of tradition and modernity is tried at various levels thereby opening the floodgates of creative possibilities within him.
In support of his themes, he tends to use vibrant colours. Keeping the main theme of artwork in mind, he goes on adding smaller images. Various dimensions of the main theme could be gazed through different layers. And in terms of the dimensions of paintings one can see an element of transparency in figures while trying to do these experiments in his works.
He will give a finishing touch to works in his own creative way through his understandings of the tradition of North Karnataka life coupled with it. He has a fairly good understanding of post Vijayanagara style and the attires of Peshwa period of our history and uses powerful images through small figures; a prominence on lines and also a total control on lines is a hallmark of his works.
