About Artist

Bhanwarsingh Panwar was born in Rajasthan (1939) in a small village of Jarau. He was raised by his maternal grandmother on the land which was surrounded by Aravalli mountains. Having raised in the lap of nature, he saw the village life very closely which left a deep impact on his mind. He is very fond of various forms of nature like birds, animals, trees, mountains, forests, fields etc. This natural form excites him even till date. In 1955, after passing his metric exams he came to Ahmedabad. One fine day, he saw late Shri Kanhaiyalal Yadav sketching cows and buffalos after a brief interaction it changed his life. He followed his guidance and instructions till very last moment. He was excited to be taught under him. He insisted him to give exam for intermediate grade drawing examination. It was then he learnt drawing. From the beginning, he was very firm that he wanted to be a good painter and passing the exam was not the only criteria. In the year 1958, he passed his DTC exams and became an art teacher. Through Shri Yadav, he came in touch with contemporary and creative artist. This group of artist like Shri Maansingh Chaara, Shri Piraji Sagara, Shri Rashmikant Khatri, Shri Kanhaiyalal Yadav, Shri Ramnik Bhavsar, Shri Bhanu Shah, Shri Janak Patel and Shri Balkrishna Patel had already formed a group called ‘Progressive Painters of Ahmedabad’. Bhanwarsingh was fortunate to show his paintings to Shri Balkrishna Patel, discuss various aspects of art with fellow artist at Shri Piraji Sagara’s residence and be under the guidance of Shri Chaganlal Yadav. This all happened between 1958-1965, whereby he was very much influenced and impressed with their contemporary concepts. Later on, few of his artists friends came together to create ‘Practicing Painters Group’ whose members were Shri Maansingh Chaara, Shri Ashwin Modi, Shri Mukund Shroff, Shri AA Pathen and himself. From 1967-1970, they exhibited in Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Delhi regularly. Meanwhile, he also exhibited in local, state level and national exhibitions. Till date, he has done more than 15 solo shows in Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Jaipur and New Delhi. He has won several awards like 1964, 1968 and 1989 Academy award Academy of fine arts Calcutta, 1967 Award Hyderabad art society, 1967 and 1989 Prizes Gujarat State Lalit Kala Akademi, 1990- Prize Ahmedabad Muni. Corporation, 2002 Sr. Fellowship Award Dept. Of culture Govt. India, Veteran Artist 2010 AIFACS New Delhi, Gujarat Lalit Kala Gourav Purskar 2010. He has been part of several prestigious organisations and held respective positions 1983, 2000 and 2007 Jury Member Guj. State art Exhibition Guj. Lalit Kala Akademi, 1997-2000 Member Guj. State Lalit Kala Akademi, 1999-2002 Elected member Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, 2010 Veteran Artist AIFACS, New Delhi. His collections can be found in Air India, Museum of Modern Art, Lalit Kala Akademi- New Delhi. Commissioner youth service and cultural activities Govt. Of Gujarat and many other corporate and Indian art lovers. Also with leading private collectors and public organizations in India and abroad. Shri Panwar is very thankful to three significant people in his life. Shri Kanhaiyalal Yadav who brought him in the field of fine arts. Shri Maansingh Chaara for his discussion and guidance which constantly motivated his passion for fine arts and Shri Jeram Patel who illuminated and nurtured his knowledge for his work and fine arts.
