Hailing from Kurduvadi a small town by Shollapur district in Maharashtra. My interest for art developed even before I received my formal training to be an artist. As a child I had a knack for drawing, I would draw anywhere from my note book to my body that’s how obsessed I was. I was determined since then that I was going to be an artist not knowing what the future held for me. It was in Sir JJ School of Art that I took formal training under the guidance of esteemed artist Prabhakar Kolte, mentor and friend.
On my graduation I spent a brief amount of time in Ecole debesaux, Paris and in the prestigious Royal College of Arts London on scholarship by the French Govt. The exposure I received there had a radical influence on my work.
On my return to India I settled in Chennai and set up Muktha my studio and residence. It is from here that I continue to practice and exhibit my work at various galleries around the country and overseas.
In the fourty years of my career I spent a formidable ten years teaching in Chikamagaluru in Amber Valley School situated amidst the Western Ghats. Secluded from the city and the rest of the world spending time with the youngest of the minds and introspecting on my work and process, thus leading to a transition in my work.
Today I continue doing what I love and have honed in all these years.
My works involve bold lines, shapes and layers of colors all composed together to create a form that is open ended and intriguing.
