Description
The Ramayan is a historical scripture (Itihas-Grantha) which is not merely a narration of events. It contains the condensed wisdom of Vedic Knowledge and is an excellent mix of history, poetry, legends, parables and sublime thoughts.
One of the largest ancient epics in world literature, the Ramayan is divided into seven kaands (books). The artist, through this unique work of acrylic paint on woodcut, is episoding major events from each of the kaands: Baal-Kaand, Ayodhya-Kaand, Aranya-Kaand, Kishkindha-Kaand, Sundar-Kaand, Yuddha-Kaand, Uttar-Kaand.
The circular wooden base has been chosen over regular canvas, to reveal the solid grounding of culture of the mythological story, with the characters given a special visual impact with flat colors and outlines to empower their prominence.
The Indian mahogany wood has been especially chosen for its natural red-brown colour and long lasting life - then varnished to enhance the beauty of its finish.
