About Artist
Well-defined strokes, strong colours and soft highlights are the main characteristics of Avi Roy's works. His human subjects sport sombre, oval faces with expressive, yet inscrutable eyes. His use of colour and shading is almost surreal, but remains in harmony with the picture. Patterns, symmetrical and neat, as well as insect and animal motifs appear alongside his figures, perhaps anchoring them to our world.
“Portraits of any person can express what he or she is as well as what he or she is not. This notion of trying to figure out people through portraits is what I want to explore in my work – explore what it would be like to be them. If I were the only human being God had made, what would it be like? It is this eternal search to know the inside that I want to through my work.”
“Our Human life is a convulsion to situations, reactions to actions and so on. So there is a message in every work I do - this very important to me.”
“My compositions are dominated by the Spiritual Meaning of Symbols and
natural elements because today we are moving away from the nature and spiritual. We are becoming more and more gazette oriented. We are forgetting what we are and our origin.”
