Sonali: Everything is fair in love and war, recreated from the untitled portrait of Sonali Dasgupta by Maqbool Fida Husain. Sonali, wife of documentary filmmaker Harisadhan Dasgupta flew away with Roberto Rossellini (famous director, screenwriter and producer) to Rome and married him leaving her elder son in India with. Husain’s contributing part as an accomplice, gave him a closer perspective of a woman who was in love. And as we know, “Everything is fair in love and war”. I’ve attempted to re-create such a woman’s portrait in my own language of realism with the colour and formal structure of Husain’s work.
