Anand Shende who hails from Chandigarh and is also a professor with the Government College of Art, Chandigarh, displays a blend of ancient with modern. Named Blessings of Ancestors, his portraits in vibrant colours have faces of people from rural Maharashtra with the feeling of joy of living which symbolises wit, irony and richness. Anand Shende's paintings depict rural atmosphere in his chosen theme 'Blessings of ancestors'. The artist, who hails from Chandigarh, has several bold paintings that attract the viewer. Vibrant colours, bold lines and figures portray people from his native place in Maharashtra. He captures folk characters bearing the shades of hard life and endurance. The artist sticks to his core theme yet again albeit giving it a broader, wider, larger perspective. And another effort, rather a statement established through the use of stylized figures, is pre-dominant in anand shende work. A subtle story telling caste, occupies the maximum surface, with vibrant colored portraits. The fuse of rural expression with a modern tinge is the core, and so is the statement. Anand’s evocative palette of vivid faces in vibrant colours invests his natives of Maharashtra with a joie-de-vivre that’s infections blessed are his ancestors and their earthy inheritance full of wit, irony and rich symbolism.
