This story lamp is designed to create an assertive style statement in your living room. The lamp contains a hand-cut paper stencil of Tree-of-life divided across three panels of the lamp. Each side of this triangular lamp denotes the interconnection of different aspects of life including plants, animals, and birds. The hand-cut Sanjhi motif gets illuminated when switched on and the scene comes to life creating a bright yet serene atmosphere. The lamp uses handmade paper with long silk fibers embedded in it, which adds to the texture. The paper is sandwiched between two glasses and framed using teak-wood.
About the Art-form:
Sanjhi, the art of paper stenciling using special scissors, was initially used to create stencils. These stencils were then used to make floor decorations (Rangolis) in Lord Krishna temple. With time, the art-form has been reduced to wall hangings in white paper and is being practiced by a few individuals only.
