A scroll through popular décor Instagram accounts and Pinterest boards will tell you the two most important tips for home styling: beauty lies in details and your home should reflect who you are. When we think of revamping our homes, moving the sofas and painting the walls are our first thoughts but we overlook the real game changers: the drab corners, tables, shelves and accessories. Start with what’s in front of you: the coffee table! It’s the centerpiece of the living room and in many ways, sets the ambience for the space. Learn the secret sauce for making the coffee table look chic and impeccable with these 5 accents and tips!
1. The Size
Kind of a no brainer but never put on the table anything so big that it obstructs viewing the TV! Keep the visual interest and functionality of the table intact by avoiding picking too large pieces like giant vases or sculptures. The accessories should also have enough visual weight that they don’t get lost.
Assemble the knick-knacks in a tray rather than have them scattered around. A tray gives the small accents a unified look by forcing them together and making the composition look appealing. A big tray is great for corralling books, candles, coasters, curios and fresh flowers in one place for a neat look. A smaller tray can be placed beside other big pieces, carrying the tiny collectibles.
3. Something fresh
Fresh flowers or flower vase are a must-have on the table. There is no other mood-up lifter like fresh plants in the house. If you so not want to through the trouble of replacing flowers in the vase every other day, go for faucet planter, cute pots or even a fake plant. Though nothing can duplicate the look of blooming flowers, these are a decent replacement! Remember to pick the right vase size for the table.
4. Do not overcrowd
If you’re anything like us, you would also find yourself going a little further and placing a variety of cute collectibles and putting a great stack of coffee table books and magazines on display. But stop! Remember to always have enough space to keep beverages, books, remote etc. on the coffee table (duh!). Do not overcrowd the table and keep it functional so that it doesn’t fail its purpose!
No artificial light can duplicate the warmth and radiance of candles! Invest in beautiful candle holders and candles to give the table a luxurious look. Play around with different sizes, team them together in a tray and see the huge difference it makes!
