Artist Debashis Jana’s works are quite profound. They reflect an inner journey to the core of his being and this is unfolded as a complex configuration of elements on canvas. His work is rich in symbolism and draws the viewer entranced into inner worlds rich in colour, meaning and symmetry.
He had graduated from the Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata and then embarked on his inner journey of exploration. His works derive deeply from the Art of Quism, which he believes in. Quismis a reflection of the beginning. A real 'ism' is reflected by the power which lies beyond our ideas and everything is considered either true or false. There is no middle ground here. This signifies the beginning of millennium cycle and is almost like a compass. He uses a complex system of mathematical computations in this painting to show that time and space shown as the 'hands of hour and minute' are moving like planets, while the power source, the sun is stable.
Inner Journey By Debashis Jana
Reincarnation is a subject of great fascination for Debashis Jana and this canvas depicts the cycle of various lives. The star here represents the passage of time. The sharply drawn features on the faces and the powerful strokes represent how strongly the artist wishes to put his point across.
This work titled “Relations” has three segments and all these are profoundly interconnected. The first revolves around birth which is the result of love - love yourself, rebirth results. The second one moves to the phase post rebirth, everyone is born absolute by birth, male-female without division of the sources, here he propounds equality. The next one touches the concept of ‘isms’. The artist believes thatreal 'ism' is a power far bigger than our ideas. There is no grey, everything like black and white is either true or false.
