Vinita Karim has lived and worked throughout Asia, the Middle East and Europe. Educated in Sweden and Philippines, her landscapes draw on her travel and experience yet consistently link back to India. She has earned a diploma in Fine Arts from Gerlesborg Art Institute in Stockholm and a Master in Fine Arts from University of Philippines in Manila.
Karim’s gilt-leafed canvases are set around lands lived and imagined, in histories and geographies of her choosing, places rich with meaning and life despite the physical absence of human figures. Hers are narratives built around life-lines of waters, in cities with significant sea histories.
Established layer by layer, with lines that are repositories of those memories, she combines the blazing sun in Egypt with the waterways in the Philippines, the banks of Tripoli with the lakes of Switzerland.
With 23 solo exhibitions to her credit, her work is shown and collected around the globe. She has recently exhibited in India Art Fair, India, Sikka Art Fair, Dubai , Dhaka Art Summit, Bangladesh and Toran Project by Waddington Auctions, Canada and Arabian Wings Auction in Saudi Arabia as well as the Asian Art Bienalle in Bangladesh.
This work is inspired by the Ganga ghat in Varanasi.
