This painting is from my Home series where most of the topics and subjects were about my life, my home, interactions with family and pets. Home as a state of mind. Home as in Earth abundant with trees, hills, plants, rocks and all creatures large and small. This series also expressed a completeness that i was feeling and continue to feel. A feeling that i belonged....a feeling that i was home in my skin mentally, emotionally and physically. Our Cat, Geisha was from a domesticated ancestry of cats that don't know how to kill. Their instincts to watch, pounce, leap and chase remain but even with a mouthful of squirrel or bird, she never bit them in fatal places infact she never bit them at all. More like carried them like cat mothers do their kittens. Once dropped out of her mouth the prey of the moment scurry or fly off in complete surprise to be alive! Infact its quite a watchable sight when the squirrel or bird, lying still after being unceremoniously dumped at my feet with a proud "look what i caught for you mamma", flourish, covered in Geisha's saliva, suddenly realize that all their body parts are intact! Their facial expressions are amusing . Yes! All creatures have facial expressions. My heart used to worry that they might be hurt but each and every time they were unhurt and free to go. Soon all the creatures in our garden were unafraid and befriended Geisha.....it was a surreal sight to behold. Birds in my balcony depicted Geisha's favorite pass time. Bird feed and water in the balconies were a constant in my household and watching them eat, chat, clean up was her entertainment much like our watching TV.
