Birth of Lord Ram:
The Gods appealed Lord Vishnu to help Dharti (Mother Earth) to get rid of the troubles and havoc the demons were causing under the rule of the Demonic king Ravana. Lord Vishnu assured them that he will appear soon in the human form on Earth to help them. Meanwhile, King of Ayodhya known as Dashratha was in his middle age and had no child to carry forward his kingly lineage. He appealed to the royal Guru, Sage Vashishtha to solve this problem. Sage Vashishtha called Shringi Rishi to perform the Putreshti Yagna (fire sacrifice to obtain a male child) for King Dashratha. At the end of the rituals, Agni, the Lord of Fire appeared and handed a bowl of kheer (an Indian sweet made of rice). The king gave the kheer to his three queens namely Kaushalya, Sumitra and Kaikeyi and asked them to distribute it amongst themselves. Sumitra cleverly had two bowls of kheer and at the end of nine months, Ram was born to Kaushalya, Bharat to Kaikeyi and Lakshman and Shatrughan to Sumitra.
