Raktim Parashar is an Assamese artist whose ink drawings are influenced by his everyday surroundings. He appropriates mundane, discarded objects, creating a virtual world through his drawings that give renewed life to dysfunctional industrial waste and decrepit architecture. By reviving objects, one seems to be able to trace the history, evolution and erosion of these components, together with their renewed life-forms. Nightmare in Mayong recounts a folk legend that stems from an Assamese village famed for magic and witchcraft. It is believed that those who visit the area are transformed into beasts or disappear into the forests. The protagonist, himself a monster, is lured and then eaten by a flower often used as a medicinal herb in Assam.
