Mona Rai (born 1947, based in New Delhi) is a painter who explores the
expressive potential of different materials. She creates shimmering fields
of color that dazzle and oscillate in the light, abstractions informed by
crafts production and ritual art forms.
During her long and distinguished career, she has had many solo and
group shows. Her recent group shows include Verk at Nature Morte,
New Delhi (2010) and Path to the Gold Mine at Palette Art Gallery,
New Delhi (2007).
Her work has also been been exhibited internationally and features in
several prestigious collections such as National Gallery of Modern Art,
New Delhi; Lalit Kala Akademi; Air India; Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal, Punjab
University Museum, Chandigarh and in other private collections in India
