Description

Anand Narain's paintings bespoke of the holy city Banaras (Varanasi) in an abstract yet realistic manner. The city's architectural beauty and unusual perspectives, the beliefs and myths deeply rooted in the hearts of rural races, holy & serene ghats of the Ganges, cluster of majestic temples and the herding boats … all these things help foster his thoughts and have jointly made the subject of his paintings. Indian meadows with their extreme stretch, inhabitant on the river coasts, fertile or unfertile land approached or surrounded by rivers, the bridges and crossings, lively and nurturing forests and vegetation find space in the series of his paintings titled 'Untouched Nature’. The rich spatula technique is unique to his works. Simplification brought in by creative abstraction is very much close to a realistic approach thereby establishing a lasting connection with the audience. The tones of color are very specific to his works as through them the subject and space coordinate with artistic values creating an aura, aesthetically strengthening his paintings and making them interesting. His works are very philosophical,.. they mean much more than what’s there on the canvas. Abstract yet nearing reality, the paintings are simplistic yet loaded with multiple interpretations. Narain creates not merely paintings but evokes an atmosphere through which people can engage and feel as if they were experiencing the landscape. He paints using spatula, a not-so popularly used rich tool for abstracts which apart from the 3D visual delight, also contributes to his layer-by-layer approach and makes the works long lasting, technically rich and collectibles. Narain's creative odyssey is an attempt towards preserving all that is ‘untouched’ and a part of our rich heritage.
