Syed Ahmed was Artist Curator of Ajanta. In 1915 he was appointed by the Government of HEH the Nizam in whose dominion Ajanta was situated to procure faithful copies of the frescoes. He received his training under Lady Herringham to copy the frescoes with greater fidelity to the originals. His efforts in this respect were crowned with a fair amount of success for his copies as regards tone were distinctly superior. His copies are included in plates in a book "Ajanta-Frescoes" published by the Oxford University Press. Syed Ahmed retired from the Curatorship around 1955. Copies of Syed Ahmed are a guarantee that he has not over emphasised the beauty of the original drawing of the frescoes by his own artistic imagination.
