Sudhir Bhagat has over 20 years of experience as a designer and creative director-providing consultancy to some of the world’s most creative advertising networks. Based in New Delhi, he graduated with BFA at Delhi College of Art in 1985 and has to his credit some of the most iconic and popular advertising campaigns. His work has been recognized and awarded both locally and by international juries in New York, Asia-Pacific, the UK and Europe. After spending many years in advertising, Sudhir felt that working on someone else’s -brief – was no more fun and his inner craving for painting led him to alter his creative flow towards it. Sudhir works primarily with oil and acrylic on canvas, and water colors. His approach to work is so fresh in terms of forms and colors that is not only contemporary but very futuristic. Sudhir wish to leave behind a body of work that will inspire feelings of joy and happiness and so driven by this passion to express himself through what he call ‘Positive Art’. Sudhir Bhagat’s multipurpose picture of hard-edged drips, lacy stalactites and melted intense colors constitutes a titillating imagery, balanced between the ornamental and the organic. The canvas spreads out invibrant hues shaping out a dreamy sense of a liquid landscape, which alongside cultivates a strong feeling of elastic, expansive space. Equipped with talent of intelligent experimentation both in color and form, one experiences after looking at Bhagat’s pictorial space, unfolding of a ceaseless drama grasping energy from all ends of the canvas. Thrusting smoky, abstract compositions from fluid and progressive gradations of single color that later move to adopt and spill shades of familial hues, Bhagat’s potent paintings create a virtual world for the viewer that is at once unbelievable and sensuous. Evoking the ‘shringar rasa’, the two semi-transparent human figures, framed against the white void, find no earthly limitations in expressing their ‘joy’ in each other. They tangle, overlap, swirl and dance in a glory of colors, simultaneously fusing and separating, leaving traces of their union etched upon Time. Bhagat’s desire to share his experience of the inner ‘shine’ translates into fluid forms synonymous with the ecstasy of shared union. His ‘joy’ needs an ‘other’ to find expression and completion. His Muse leaps out of his fertile imagination drawing the creator to participate in his creation. Together, the artist and his Muse express their joyful union in a frenzied tango - touching, embracing and letting go. Their union is poignant with emotions - their awareness layered with the knowledge that their shared moments of ecstasy is, however, transient. The artist arrests this moment of ecstasy and brings forth the ‘shine’ that reflect his emotions expertly on canvas.
