Rahul Mukherjee’s art explores a world viewed from many different perspectives. His human figures, casting multiple shadows, are representative of the many angles from which one can observe the world or any given situation. Symbols depicting politics and power also seep through the more common images of man and beast on his surfaces. Mukherjee is well aware of the hypocrisy prevalent in society, and he uses his art to subtly depict the divides between those who consider themselves above the law and those who are more likely to be victimized by it.

Commenting on his work, the artist notes, "My work lodges painterly representations in the surreal sphere where dreamy plots, nightmarish ideas, mythological references, personal reflections and rebellious acts prevail concurrently. Cynical about interminable evolution, expansion and development, I sneer at their overlooked backlash in my current series. Cogently conveying the gist are my quintessential pictorial elements, the mirror, reflecting one side of reality, and the shadow referring to the inevitable dark side of every phenomenon. It is shadows in conjunction to the main figure that symbolically map the cycle of evolution."
