Marissa D. is a multi-disciplinary artist with an abiding interest in using craft-methodology as a system of documentation. She believes in the ‘community’ aspect of craft-making and her work is inspired by the rich heritage of traditional crafts like weaving and tapestries. Her work blurs the line between art and craft.
Used soda and beer-can metal are her raw material of choice. She uses craft techniques to re-purpose this material. Her process is intricate and labour- intensive and a 100% hand-crafted. Each piece is textured and a study in craftsman-ship.
Her work exudes an aesthetic that is rooted in the past yet embodies the future. It is poised precariously at the point of resolution between the natural world and an urban existence.
