There is a sense of tranquility in the vivid images seen in the paintings of Maneesha Akkitham Doshi. The human persona has always been an integral part of this artist's work. Fantasies and self-introspection are woven together with accessorial elements emerging as a whole in Maneesha's paintings. Over the years Maneesha has seen herself make several conscious changes in her work. Working in oils and acrylic till just 3-4 years ago, she has since begun painting with watercolors. While oils permitted several changes and corrections in her work, watercolors allow her to get her thoughts down on paper without letting the process of contemplation take away the excitement, essence and life of the original emotion.
Daughter of eminent architect, B.V. Doshi, Maneesha was born and brought up in Ahmedabad. After completing her graduation in Psychology she worked at Kanoria Centre for Arts, Ahmedabad for two years (1984-86). Though Maneesha had began painting at the age of 5, it was at this Centre, after several experiments in different media that she chose painting as a means of artistic expression." My paintings are a reflection of the unconscious as well the conscious understanding of myself and my surroundings"
After Kanoria, Maneesha attended a workshop in Fontainbleau, France in 1989. She completed her Diploma and Post Diploma in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S. University, Baroda. She has taken part in several group shows in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Baroda and has also had two solo shows at the Artists Centre and Prithvi Gallery in Mumbai. Maneesha's works are part of several collections in India and abroad. She was awarded by the Gujarat Lalit Kala Akademi in 1985 and in 1988 by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. Between 1995 - 97, the artist was awarded the National Scholarship from the Ministry of Human Resources, Department of Culture, New Delhi.
