The contemporary society is the sum total of present political activity. The people and the media play a crucial role in shaping the destiny of the society. It is so compelling that we get to know the events around us through media and to large extend are forced to believe it too. The crow predominant feature in the current series of Kandan G ‘s works acts as symbolic metaphor. The crow as a messenger in the time bygone is taken as reference point for the media. In the Hindu belief crow is used as the communication between the living and departed. Its role as the mediator between the abstract and the real is too well known. The crow which renders the service selflessly seems to throw an enquiry at the current state of media. The paper rocket illustrates the speed at which information and news is disseminated. Media is witness to all the events. The railway tracks are another symbolism in the series is also about ease with which people can commute from one place to the other. But the circumstances in the current society are made chaotic making all things around challenging. There is mystery surrounding almost all kinds of political and public dispositions. The independence of thought of the individual is more important than the freedom to nation. When an individual is independent in thought a vibrant society is created. The present politics does not allow a free thought acting a as the obstacle of free thought.

Drawings and Works on paper

The body is a storehouse of mysteries hidden within. The trials and tribulations that go on deep within are never seen externally. The happiness, melancholy, enragement are brought out in distorted body forms. The female’s role as form of Shakti is alluded to in the drawings. The meaningless becomes meaningful. A line can emote many feelings. The spirituality, quest for knowledge, the nude figuration in the drawings gives a divine touch to the human figure. The nude postures allude to the spiritual as is depicted in the Kajuraho temple. The forms of figure range from realistic and semi realistic

Abstract Series
Kandan G ‘s Abstracts are inspired from nature. Forming the impression of things around, he forms images and spaces. From surreal experience comes from the experiment, from meditation comes energy, which duly transferred onto the canvas forms suggestive of things around. Bold wavy strokes are highly energetic in Kandan’s works. Kandan G uses the colours in a highly symbolic manner. His handling of colours gives meaning to the meaningless. In using red he symbolizes meditation. White represents emptiness or absence of everything, ready to be filled, ready to be engaged. Black symbolizes infinity of going beyond.
Poetics of emotions series of abstract works by Kandan employs the amalgamation of Kandan’s entire experiments of art practice. A line in his works emotes many feelings and quest for knowledge and wisdom. In most of his work swirly patterns find a predominant place. Use of vibrant reds and black give the space, a much-needed energy. It is an experiment of creating something from zero or total emptiness. As he continues the experiment, the space becomes energetic from nothingness. There is always something beyond everything, not felt or not seen. But yet it announces boldly its presence. Kandan’s poetics of emotions signifies a quest for knowing what is beyond, what is not decipherable. Quest is a natural trait and art is one way for reaching for the unknown and the infinite.
