Siddalinga Swami was a renowned painter, sculptor, writer and an architect who found patronage in the royal house of Mysore in the early 20th Century. In fact, Maharaja Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar of Mysore considered Siddalinga Swami as his personal guru. He was also the royal guru of Mysore state.
Siddalinga Swami was born in 1885 into a family of sculptors in Kollegal. He was trained in the family profession. In 1908, he got to work in Mysore under Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV. He is credited for Manasara, the bibliography of Indian sculptural art. Siddalinga Swami also founded a sculpture school in Mysore named Jagadguru Shaivashilpa Brahmarshi Gurukula in 1949. He served as the palace artiste until his death in 1952.
