My name is Ishita Adhikary, from Kolkata and I am interested in Pop Art, Contemporary African American Art, and abstract photography. The essence of my work is urbanism. I sense a contradiction in my life. As an urban I very much settled within the urban culture. But at the same time the scarcity of green, fresh air, silent corners and unpopulated places alarms me.

In my works I like to use cranes, junks, constructions as a symbol of an urban mechanical society. I also like to use plane green field as my background but in toneless manner so as to symbolize the urban mechanism destroying the green. I use the word “play” in my work to show the on-going nature of destruction. I always tone down the colours, as we cannot see the real bright colours in our urban area. All colours have become fulvous due to pollution.

So through my works, I try to show that I am ready to defeat the play of devastation. I am ready to find our roots. I am ready to make a promise that by whatever means I have to spread awareness through my works.
