In recent times a few artists are trying to revive the art of Kalighat Painting which had all but died out in the early 20th Century.Debdita Banerjee is one of the artists who has taken upon herself the task of reviving and promoting Kalighat Painting.She is probably the only one in India who belongs to a non-patua family but has dedicated herself to revive the almost died out tradition of "Kalighat Pata".The painting is done is natural pigment colour on paper to retain the original flavour of the age old Kalighat Painting.She had developed this particular style after many years of trial and errors.She uses vibrant colours and intricate designs in her paintings to make it more beautiful and attractive to the new generation.The attention to composition and detailing of the people in traditional bengali attire and jewellery in an environment that is reminiscent of the Old Kolkata Babu and Bibi Culture.All are enhanced by the deep and rich hues of colour.
