Anita Kulkarni was born in New Delhi in 1965. Her childhood was spent in learning music & dance from her father the world renowned Kathak exponent Padma Vibushan Guru Pt. Birju Maharaj.
She received her formal training in art by completing her B.F.A in Sculpture from the College of Art, Delhi University in 1988. She was awarded the Gold medal from College of Art, Delhi in 1988. The same year she was awarded by the Sahitya Kala Parishad with the Yuva Mahotsava Award. She received the ‘Special Mention’ Award at the All India Henry Moore Sculpture Competition in 1988 organised by the British Council. She was awarded the Junior Fellowship from the Dept. of Culture, Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India in 1992.She was also awarded by the Academy Of Fine Arts, Punjab in 2011.

She has dabbled in a host of media. Over the years she has created sculptures in stone, terracotta, fibre-glass, cement-concrete and metal. Her paintings are mostly in acrylics. She has held twenty-one Solo shows of her works and participated in numerous group shows & artist camps in India and abroad. Anita has installed several murals and sculptures at public places and corporate offices. Her works are in the collections of Art Institutions, Museums, Art Galleries, Corporate Houses and private art collectors in India and abroad.

Anita was also instrumental in founding SPACE – School for Performing Arts & Creative Education in 2001. She also founded & served as the Director of Amity Shool of Fine Art & Fashion Technology, Amity University, Noida for several years. She lives and works in Noida, U.P.
