"Animesh Roy paints with a breezy brush, loaded with thick paint catching the ephemeral poetry of colour and light through changing seasons in the woodlands." an Art critic once described Roy's work.
Animesh Roy (b. 1968) has a Bachelor of Fine Arts [BFA] degree from Delhi College of Art, India (1986-90). He is now an internationally well-known painter based in India, Europe and the US. He is also considered as one of the top 'Oil Painters' from India. While most Indian artists have shifted to Acrylic, Roy has been painting in Oil for the last two decades.
Till date he has held over fifteen solo shows and numerous group shows in India and abroad. He has been invited to participate in various international art shows from countries like China, Belarus, Poland, Krygz Republic, Iran, India, Kenya, USA etc. His works have been be acquired by state and private Museums in several European countries and China. Roy also gets invited to participate in various European 'plein air' (art camps) across Europe. The artist's impressionistic style is characterised by visible, expressive brush-strokes, and a painterly impasto. Prefers to paint in Oils in small & large sizes alike and is versatile in varied genres (categories) of painting. viz. Abstract, Figurative, Portrait, Floral, Landscape, Still Life etc. Oil paints are mostly of top European brands and 'prepared' Linen from Italy. He has a thick impasto technique using knife and spatula.
Bright, yet soft, visible textures and bold highlights with strong strokes and vibrant colours are the characteristics of Roy's works. His use of semi-realism gives one the feeling of looking through a window into a world that is as strange as it is familiar, and beautiful in both aspects.
In his Art so in his life, Roy has merged the Orient and the Occident to a beautiful unison!!
Animesh Roy lives and works in both India and Europe.

I owe my presence as an artist/painter on the Web (World Wide Web) to Mojarto. Starting off as I did in the early 1990s, we had to depend on Art galleries run in real spaces, till the Internet intervened and changed all that!! The dependence on snooty upmarket galleries, a scourge on young artists finally ended. And Mojarto is one of the early pioneers to bring together artists and art collectors on the Web.
