Amrita Das, having completed her 12th Dr Nagendra Jha High School Darbhanga in 2004; Graduation JMDPL Womens college Mahubani 2010 in Labour and Social Welfare; one year diploma in Mithila painting from Mithila Art Institute 2004-2005; One year special programme in Mithila Painting from Mithila Art Institute.
Das’s works not only addresses subjects related within her Immediate Social Environments but she also responds to Social- Political issues such as Tsunami -2005.
In 2004 she started this form of painting at Mithila Art Institute under the guidance of the master eminent artist Santosh Kumar Das, she was also influenced by Mr Santanu Das.
She draws on contemporary issues and women empowerment, and has worked with Tara Books.
One of her prominent projects have been - Tsunami : A paginating on Tsunami disaster, a series made in 2005. Works made in Black and White, now owned by Aparna Kaur, as well the coloured version is published by Tara Books Pvt Ltd. Another series on Setusamudram : A painting on our Ram Setu and the politics played around, are now a part of Devi Art Foundation and Jackfruit Private Limited.
A 2500-year-old folk-art form, Madhubani art (or Mithila painting) is a style of Indian painting, practiced in the Mithila region in India. These paintings were usually created by women on walls and floors of homes during festivals, ceremonies or special occasions which binds the art form to life and art, as living traditions. The paintings
are done with tools such as twigs, brushes, nib-pens, and matchsticks and using natural dyes and pigments.
