I believe that we all face several challenges in life- some enormous and some trivial. Most often our experiences while dealing with such challenges help us evolve as individuals and also shape our perception. The ball is, however, always in our court- whether we get bogged down by these challenges or bounce back is our choice. I chose to bounce back through art.
My art is my voice, a powerful influence of my deepest thoughts, fears, aspirations hidden emotions and strongest desires. The images I create are derived from personal experiences and the desire to explore, which are better communicated through paintings than the spoken word.
I indulge in geometric abstract which is based on the use of simple geometric forms placed in non-illusionistic space and combined into non-objective formations. For me geometric abstract is a form of both expression and exploration. Through my paintings, I attempt to shed light on the positive aspects of life- urging the viewer to not feel burdened by life, rather celebrate it instead. My representation of life may appear simple but is associated with deep meanings and complexity; amplified by the use of bold colours. I tend to draw an analogy between mundane and aspirations, synthesizing new insights every day.
My work is influenced by Piet Mondrian and like him I too aim to reconcile my paintings with my spiritual pursuits. However, I do not restrict myself to the usage of just lines but also shapes- to be precise rectangles. Subsequently, I will be experimenting with circles as well.
What drew me into geometric abstract was my training in engineering. Playing with shapes has been a part and parcel of my life- be it while I made engineering drawings in college or while drawing circuit diagrams at work. Shapes never failed to fascinate me. This fascination paved way to attraction and then expression- finally leading me into this direction. Just like my personal history and culture are my life’s foundation, each shape I paint on a canvas becomes the history of its surface. These layers accumulate and influence, yet not always overtly. While, sometimes the translucent quality of top layers reveals aspects of the painting’s history, at other times, a thick layer of solid colours hides the past. Yet it is there beneath the surface and has its influence nonetheless.
